How Your Credit Score Affects Your Mortgage Rate

Before anything else, you’ll need to know what your current credit score is. You should compare that against the average Minnesota consumer credit score which is 707. And the national average credit score is 677. Your credit score impacts what your home mortgage rate will be. Historically home mortgage rates have varied from 5% to over 13%. Lenders create their home mortgage rates by using the Federal Discount Interest Rate and then increase it by using an internal formula to create their own home mortgage rate. When you apply for a home mortgage, your home mortgage rate will be determined by a whole host of factors, one of which is your credit score.

Minnesota Mortgage State Laws:

Both non-judicial and judicial processes are used in Minnesota.

In judicial proceedings, the lender files a lawsuit against the borrower. If the court rules in favor of the lender, a sale of the property is scheduled.

A notice of sale must be published six weeks before the sale, and the borrowers must be notified at leas four weeks before the sale of the property.

The property is sold to the highest bidder, and the winner must pay with cash or cashiers check.

A borrower frequently will have a six-month redemption period.
