MacDill Credit Union originally was named MacDill Air Force Base Federal Credit Union when it first opened in 1955. It was started by a man names John Luley and a woman named Frances E. Doughty who were both civil service employees on the base. The credit union started in a closet with one woman and has come a long a way since then. MacDill Credit Union has grown from its first two members to over 176,000 members with over $1.6 billion in assets which benefits the entire organization. With over 18 branches through the five counties of the Tampa Bay, Florida area, its origin started with military families. Today, MacDill Credit Union is now open to more than 1,100 local businesses.

Types of Mortgages Available Through MacDill Credit Union
- Home Mortgages – With no discount point to pay, no origination fee, free 60-day lock in rate, no underwriting fees, and no document fees, MacDill offers their members a great benefit when purchasing a home. Some properties MacDill will lend money to members for are: single family homes, condos and townhouses. They will not lend money on mobile homes, boats, or RVs that are used as a member’s primary residence. MacDill also does not offer land or commercial property loans.
- Home Equity Line of Credit – This loan allows you to take equity out of your home to use the cash for other things ranging from home improvements, debt consolidation, or a down payment on another property.
- Second Mortgage Loans – MacDill Credit Union’s second mortgage is different from a HELOC since the entire amount of equity is given to the borrower. Unlike a HELOC where the borrower gets a check book and decides when to use the equity, a Second Mortgage gives the borrower all the money at once.
